BRACES FACTS AND TIPS
We produce informative blog posts, in-depth guides – and give you valuable advice when you come to see us.
In this blog post, we bring you three more crucial facts about orthodontics…
Fact 1:
Choosing the best orthodontist is crucial
Would you prefer to be treated by an exceptional Specialist Orthodontist (who holds General Dental Council “Specialist” status)?
Or would you rather be treated by an all-rounder dentist who does teeth straightening among many other treatments.
We have a great deal of expertise and experience in a number of different orthodontic treatments.
We can help you choose the teeth straightening treatment best suited to your needs to give you exceptional results.
BRACES FACTS AND MYTHS
Fact 2:
Not everything you hear about braces is true
Myth 1: Brass and wind instrumentalists who wear braces will not be able to play their instruments.
Because playing instruments such as the clarinet or the trumpet involves the teeth, the tongue and muscles of the lips and the face, orthodontic treatment can make things a little tricky to begin with. But, with a bit of practice, most musicians can adjust to wearing braces.
Myth 2: It’s not safe for people who play contact sports, such as rugby, to wear braces.
The British Orthodontic Society recommends wearing a mouth guard over a fixed brace when playing contact sports.
It says this could prevent the brace being damaged, the mouth being cut by the brace and dental injuries. Braces give a great deal of support to the teeth. The main job of the mouth guard is to protect the brace.
Myth 3: Orthodontic treatment takes years and years
Treatment times vary depending on the patient and the specific teeth straightening treatment.
Most patients will need to wear braces for about two years. More severe cases will take longer.
Fact 3:
Planning now can save smiles later (child orthodontics)
We advise parents to bring their children to see us by the age of seven at the latest.
This gives us the best opportunity to spot problems and start to put things right. It also makes it easier for us to stop any further problems as your child gets older.
Orthodontic problems can steadily deteriorate, which means they become more and more difficult to treat.
Please bring children older than seven to see us as soon as possible.
