DO BRACES HURT?

Because braces work by applying force to the teeth and jaw, they can feel a little uncomfortable and unusual at first but patients almost always start to get used to the pressure within a few days.

Over-the-counter painkillers can help you to deal with this early discomfort.

How to stop braces hurting

With certain types of braces, your orthodontist may also recommend applying wax to the braces to stop them rubbing the inside of your mouth.

In the unlikely event the discomfort continues, your orthodontist can often make adjustments to your braces to make things better.

Braces follow-up appointments

With most types of fixed braces, further visits to the orthodontist are necessary so they can make adjustments to ensure the teeth continue to move towards their final position.

You may feel some discomfort in the days following your appointments.

Is Invisalign® painful?

With invisible removable braces, you will start wearing a new set of aligners about once every two weeks.

Each set of new aligners can feel tight and a little sore for the first few days.

The good news is that most people who wear braces find such discomfort manageable and it all means you are moving further towards your goal of enjoying attractive, straight teeth.
